FAQ's Season 13 2025/26

When do classes start and how long do they run for?

Sessional Terms  are courses that are typically anywhere from 3 to 10 weeks in duration and are designed for dancers who are looking to try dance but aren't yet ready for a 10 month commitment and/or a recital performance.

Full-Season Terms are for 10 months (September - June) and are designed for dancers who want to grow their skills, sense of community and have the opportunity to perform on stage. Full-Season classes are our most popular classes!

How much does the class cost?

Tuition rates start as low as $80 per month*, depending on the age and level of the dancer and the length of the class.

*see payment terms below for options

When Is The Recital?

Our Spring Recital will be held on June 6th, 2026 and is the showcase of our classes that are part of the Full Season and Competition Program.

Each student in the Recital is assessed a Performer Fee that includes:

  • receiving a high-quality recital costume to keep,
  • a high-quality recording of your child’s dance on stage at no extra charge,
  • theatre fee
  • supervision fee

Performer Fee is $199 +GST per dancer, and the additional  costume fee (if the student is in multiple classes)  is $99 +GST. Tickets are sold for the event - families choose how many family members are attending. Ticket fee is based on the venue booked for the event.

What is the WINTER Showcase Performer Fee?

The Winter Showcase is held annually at the end of January, at an offsite venue. Performer Fee is $99 +GST for a showcase costume, and tickets are sold for the event - families choose how many family members are attending. Ticket fee is based on the venue booked for the event.

General Policies

Leap Studios: Program & Policy Guide for Families

Published June 21, 2025

1. Welcome Statement

Welcome to Leap Studios — where we take pride in being a leader in happy, healthy, and safe dance education. Our faculty are highly trained in dancer development, injury prevention, and the promotion of positive body image, and are dedicated to fostering a learning environment that supports each dancer’s physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Whether your child is taking their very first dance class or is an experienced performer seeking a more balanced and inclusive approach to training, we’re thrilled to welcome your family to our community.

This guide outlines the key studio policies designed to ensure a safe, respectful, and enriching experience for every dancer and family. Understanding and following these policies allows us to operate smoothly, uphold the quality of our programs, and ensure that all students can thrive in a positive, well-supported environment.

2. Policies Acknowledgement

By completing registration in a Leap Studios program, the registering participant (or their parent/guardian) acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to the studio policies outlined in this guide. These policies are in place to ensure a safe, respectful, and successful experience for all students, families, and staff. Participation in any class or program at Leap Studios constitutes acceptance of these terms.

3. Registration & Financial Policies

3.1 Registration Policies

We are committed to offering high-quality programming and a financially sustainable environment for our community of families and staff.

  • All tuition and fees are non-refundable. Your registration secures a limited space in a program with fixed costs (facility, staffing, administration), and these costs remain whether or not a student attends.
  • Withdrawal after registration results in a tuition credit on your Leap Studios account, valid for 12 months from the date of withdrawal. Credits can be applied toward future programming.
  • Tuition credits are transferable to another immediate family member or student within the Leap community, subject to a 10% administrative transfer fee.
  • Trial classes are strongly encouraged before committing to a full session. These are available June through September and can be scheduled through our front desk or online system.

These policies help ensure fairness, predictability, and sustainability while supporting your child’s consistent and rewarding dance experience.

3.2 Fees and Payment

We strive to provide an exceptional dance experience while maintaining transparent financial practices:

  • All fees are subject to 5% GST as required by law.
  • Tuition or the first installment must be received to confirm your dancer's class spot.
  • Visa/MasterCard payments incur a 3% processing fee. E-transfers and cheques are welcome with no added fees.

3.3 Membership & Performance Fees

  • A $99 + GST annual membership fee applies per student, helping cover registration and admin costs (Competition Program has a separate membership fee). This fee is non-refundable and not eligible for discounts.
  • Performance Fees: $99 + GST for the Winter Showcase, and $199 + GST for the Spring Recital. These fees cover a digital download of the concert, all or part of performance attire (Winter Show: TShirt; Spring Recital: Dance Wear suitable for stage and future classes) and participation in the event.

3.4 Tuition Payment Options

We offer flexible payment structures to help families plan for the dance season:

  • Early Bird Plan (before June 30): 40% non-refundable deposit, remaining 60% split into 6 equal payments (July through December).
  • Standard Plan (after June 30): 60% payment due at registration; remaining 40% spread across 4 equal payments (August through November). Subject to availability and potential tuition increases.
  • Full Payment Discount: Tuition paid in full before June 30 receives a 5% discount (on tuition only). The credit card fee still applies.
  • No Discounts Apply to membership fees, choreography fees, or competition-related costs.

3.5 Late Payment Policy

We rely on timely payments to operate smoothly and provide consistent service to our families:

  • Payments are due on the 15th of each payment month.
  • A 5-day grace period is provided; a $25 late fee applies thereafter.
  • Accounts overdue by 30+ days may result in suspension from classes and performances until resolved.
  • All balances must be paid before costume distribution or event participation.
  • Frequent late payments may require prepaid-in-full status for future seasons.

If you're facing financial hardship, please reach out to us at help@leapstudiosdance.com. We’re here to help and may be able to offer custom arrangements.

3.6 Prorated Tuition & Payment Arrangements

We welcome new students throughout the year, space permitting:

  • Tuition will be prorated based on the number of remaining sessions.
  • Students will first attend a trial or placement class to confirm level fit.
  • We are happy to work with families to explore custom payment plans, which must be arranged through our administration and documented in writing.

4. Program Policies & Curriculum Structure

4.1 Season Duration

Our full-season programming runs from September through June and guarantees a minimum of 31 class sessions. Tuition is calculated based on this minimum, allowing for a consistent weekly rhythm of learning.

In some cases, the calendar may allow for more than 31 class occurrences. If so, we reserve the right to cancel additional classes due to weather closures, competitions, or studio events. We always aim to communicate schedule changes clearly and in advance.

4.2 Student Placement & Progression

Our leveled system is designed to support long-term development:

  • Placement is based on age, experience, physical readiness, and class maturity.
  • Teachers assess all students during the first few weeks to ensure the best fit.
  • Placement adjustments may be recommended for your dancer’s safety, success, and personal growth.

Leap Studios retains final placement authority based on our faculty’s expertise and understanding of curriculum standards.

4.3 Placement Review Process

Parents wishing to challenge a placement decision may request a Placement Audit:

  • Submit a request within 14 days of placement confirmation.
  • Your dancer will be assessed in an audition-style format by three faculty members who are not currently instructing the student.
  • A $90 + GST audit fee applies. Audit decisions are final for the current season.

This process ensures transparency while prioritizing student safety and progression.

4.4 Performance Opportunities

  • Winter Showcase: $99 + GST. Includes event T-shirt, digital video, and performance participation.
  • Spring Recital: $199 + GST. Includes recital costume, video, venue, and trained supervision. Additional costume fee of $99 + GST applies for students in multiple classes.

4.5 Dance Team Program

Our Dance Team offers additional training and performance opportunities for dancers selected by audition. This program has its own set of policies and commitments. Please email us to request the Dance Team Handbook.

4.6 Withdrawal Policies

  • Before Start: All prior payments are non-refundable. Future installment payments will be cancelled.
  • After Start: Tuition is non-refundable. In cases of medical leave (4+ consecutive weeks) or documented hardship, enrollment may be deferred.

4.7 Program Delivery Flexibility

We may adjust our program delivery due to health regulations or studio needs. These adaptations include:

  • Online classes (live or pre-recorded)
  • Temporary relocation within a 15 km radius
  • Modified schedules

These changes do not constitute valid grounds for withdrawal or refund.

5. Attendance & Family Responsibilities

5.1 Parent & Guardian Responsibilities

We share the responsibility of nurturing your dancer’s safety and success:

  • Inform us of any medical, physical, or emotional needs before enrolling.
  • Dancers age 5 and under must wait with a caregiver until welcomed in.
  • Arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before class and pick up promptly after.
  • Call/text the front desk at (403) 862-1237 in case of pick-up delay.

5.2 Attendance Expectations

  • Report absences using the Dance Studio Pro portal only. (Emails, texts, and other apps are not monitored for this purpose.)
  • Ensure dancers are on time and have used the washroom before class.
  • Notify us of any changes in caregivers or pick-up plans.

Your partnership helps create a respectful and efficient studio culture.

5.3 Make-Up Classes

Make-ups are limited due to space and curriculum pacing:

  • Allowed only for illness-related absences.
  • Maximum 3 make-ups per class per season.
  • Must be scheduled in advance by emailing us.

We do not offer drop-in make-ups or replacements for vacations or other personal absences.

6. Studio Operations & Conduct

6.1 Minimum Enrollment

A minimum of 6 students per class is required for a class to run. Classes may be rescheduled or combined if minimums aren’t met. Final schedule confirmation occurs in early September.

Enrollment secures a spot that is no longer available to others. By registering, families agree to pay the full tuition amount, even if the student discontinues attendance without an approved deferral.

6.2 Costume Policy

  • All costumes must be approved by the Artistic Director.
  • Costumes are non-refundable and often not replaceable.
  • Families are responsible for alterations and repairs as needed.

Costumes may be provided by the studio or self-purchased with approval (competition solos/duets/trios)

6.3 Code of Conduct

Leap Studios is committed to a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment:

  • All questions must be directed to administration, not instructors.
  • Contacting instructors, contractors (including dance competition organizations and adjudicators), and staff outside studio channels (text, social media, etc.) is not permitted. Likewise, instructors, contractors and staff are not permitted to contact you outside of studio channels: please report any conduct of this nature to the studio owner.
  • Disrespectful or aggressive behavior toward any member of the studio community may result in dismissal without refund.
  • Bullying of any kind — physical, emotional, or cyber — will be met with immediate administrative intervention and may lead to removal from the program.

7. Studio Calendar & Communication

Clear communication is essential to a smooth and successful season:

  • The official calendar is available in Dance Studio Pro, on our website, and via email updates.
  • Dates may occasionally change due to venue availability, weather, or other unforeseen events. These updates are always communicated promptly.
  • It is each parent/guardian’s responsibility to read all emails and check the portal regularly.

Being informed helps your child feel prepared and confident and ensures you don’t miss important events, deadlines, or opportunities.

8. Policy Amendments & General Considerations

Please note that this policy guide is reviewed and updated periodically. Policies are subject to change, and Leap Studios leadership will notify families of any significant updates via email and the Dance Studio Pro portal.

While we strive to address the majority of operational and program considerations in this guide, it is impossible to anticipate every situation that may arise. Any unique or unforeseen circumstances not explicitly covered herein should be brought to the attention of studio leadership. We are committed to working with families to find respectful, mutually agreeable solutions that align with the values and integrity of our studio.
